| GUIDE TO THE HEBREW STRUCTURE is neither a manual for learning Hebrew as a "foreign language", nor just a textbook of dialogues to be learned by heart. Our deep conviction is that the attraction to Hebrew as a NATIONAL LANGUAGE OF THE PEOPLE goes far beyond a mere interest in familiarity with a foreign language. The concept ืฉืึฐืคึทืช ืึธืขึธื adds a cultural and ideological component to Hebrew studies. In terms of methodology, this means that the purpose of study lies beyond the intent to use the language in business and personal relations. It is our belief that becoming literate in Hebrew as ืฉืึฐืคึทืช ืึธืขึธื means to start with a CORE CURRICULUM TOOL providing an insight into the Hebrew language structure and its basic concepts which sometimes โ by mistake! โ are referred to as "grammar". The difference between what is generally understood as "grammar" and the structural insight as presented in our sessions is the difference between technique (which must be learned of course!) and the very essence, the meaning of the Hebrew word rooted in the ancient texts of our Patriarchs and Prophets and preserved throughout centuries. What is unique about modern Hebrew is that it has successfully been revived in a form compatible with the demands of the 20th century and has easily adjusted itself to the language of our generation and its post-industrial hi-tech communication. Still, the essence of the Holy language remains intact! We hope our course will communicate this feeling to our students. |
